چکیده

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation with imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has been reported in chronic myeloid leukemia. Nilotinib is a more potent second generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor and it inhibits the Src-family kinase LCK and hamper proliferation and function of CD8 (+) T lymphocytes. CD8 (+) T lymphocytes are the main cellular subset responsible for viral clearance in patients with HBV infection. We report a case of HBV reactivation under treatment with nilotinib. Fatal HBV reactivation is not usually related to death in chronic myeloid leukemia patients who have an expectation of longevity with well-tolerated oral drugs. Thus, screening for latent chronic HBV infections including assessment of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc antibody) and antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs), especially at countries with intermediate and high prevalence of HBsAg is warranted. Treatment with nucleoside analogs and close monitoring may be life-saving in this context. How to cite this article Temel T, Gunduz E, Sadigova E, Teke HU, Ozgenel SM, Ozakyol AH. A Case of Hairy Cell Leukemia Associated with Hepatitis B Surface (HBs) Antigenemia and Concurrent Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Seropositivity

Literature review shows that hepatitis C infection may increase the risk of non-hodgkin lymphoma. Reactivation of hepatitis B infection has been reported in patients with hairy cell leukemia after chemotherapy and/or splenectomy. We present hepatitis B surface (HBs) antigenemia and concurrent hepatitis C virus (HCV) seropositivity in a case of hairy cell leukemia. Key Words: Hairy cell leukemi...

Reactivation of hepatitis B virus in patients receiving chemotherapy.

In patients undergoing chemotherapy for the treatment of malignant disease, the reactivation of hepatitis B virus in hepatitis B surface antigen-positive patients has been frequently reported. However, activation has also been reported in hepatitis B surface antigen-negative patients who test positive for hepatitis B core antibody and/or hepatitis B surface antibody, who were thought to have ha...

Immunosuppressive Drugs Modulate the Replication of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) in a Hydrodynamic Injection Mouse Model

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation and recurrence are common in patients under immunosuppression and can be controlled by hepatitis B immunoglobulin, antivirals, and hepatitis B vaccine. However, the detailed analysis of HBV infection under immunosuppression is essential for the prophylaxis and therapy for HBV reactivation and recurrence. In this study, HBV replication and T cell responses we...

Risk of Reactivation of Latent HBV Hepatitis in Patients Under Neurosurgical Treatment

Reactivation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a risk in the 350 million HBV carriers worldwide. HBV reactivation may cause hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis, and fulminant hepatitis, and HBV reactivation accompanied with malignant tumor and/or chemotherapy is a critical problem for the patients with chronic HBV infection. In addition, multiple risk factors causing immunosuppressive state can als...

Hepatitis B Virus Reactivation During Successful Treatment of Hepatitis C Virus With Sofosbuvir and Simeprevir.

Treatment of hepatitis C virus with potent, interferon-free, direct-acting antiviral regimens with no activity against hepatitis B virus (HBV) may increase the risk for HBV reactivation in coinfected patients. We present 2 cases of HBV reactivation during treatment with an all-oral regimen of simeprevir and sofosbuvir and discuss strategies to prevent HBV flare.
